Prathapachandra Shetty is an Executive Director of Emirates Star Fisheries, Dubai, UAE, with fisheries operations in the Coastal Arabian Sea, experienced Senior Fisheries Management Executive with strong acumen of sustainable development of fisheries industry, Quality control and Food safety. Over 29 years of extensive experience in seafood industry, shrimp farming and fishing. Currently is involved in Shrimp Farm Project Management, specialized in site selection, feasibility study, project preparation and implementation, on turnkey basis. He is a Certifier of Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), (Previously known as Aquaculture Certification Council (ACC) USA), to certify Seafood Industries and Shrimp Farms, in the region of Asia & Middle East, (2004-2013). He is also evaluator of feasibility studies, of Shrimp Farm Projects in the Middle East & North Africa Region, for AAAID (Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment & Development). Many feasibility studies were prepared, for Aquaculture shrimp farm projects in Middle East, for project financing, to the international organizations like World Bank and Islamic Development Bank. In Dubai boat building yard, he designed and built, advanced Tuna longliners, for the first time in the Middle East region, after intensive observation of traditional fishing patterns in the Coastal Arabian Sea. He worked in the Middle East Region for more than 20 years, out of 29 years of fisheries professional experience.

JIANG Shann-Tzong earned his Master Degree from Tokyo University of Fisheries, Japan, and PhD from University of Rhode Island, USA. He is an acknowledged world authority on both Seafood Science and Food Biotechnology, especially in seafood processing, food biotechnology, marine biochemistry, and application of biotechnology in food processing. He is noted for his research and publication in the field. He has also had extensive experience and brilliant achievement in the field of fish handling and processing works. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Food Science & Technology, and National Endowed Chair Professor of the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, currently working at the Department of Food Science, National Taiwan Ocean University, and at Providence Universityas Senior Vice President. Both Universities are highly respected as a research and teaching Institute in this field. He is also awarded as Distinguished Professor of Aquatic Animal Biotechnology at National Taiwan Ocean University, concurrently consulting to many fishery firms both in Taiwan and abroad engaged in fish processing technology and food biotechnology. He is, in addition, prolific of publications through his profound knowledge and deep research in such field of science.

Liao I Chiu is chair professor of the National Taiwan Ocean University and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology. He obtained his MSc and PhD at the University of Tokyo. He returned to Taiwan in 1968 as a research fellow of the Rockefeller Foundation. He then served as director of Tungkang Marine Laboratory (1969-87), director general of Taiwan Fisheries Research Institute (1987-02) and chairman of the Fisheries Society of Taiwan (2005-08). His honors include: Outstanding Research Awards, National Science Council, Taiwan (1986-95); Academic Award, Ministry of Education, Taiwan (1987); Achievement Award in Science and Engineering, Taiwan American Foundation, USA (1989); and Presidential Science Prize, Taiwan (2009);Lifetime Achievement Award Global Aquaculture Alliance, USA(2012); Recently he received the Japanese award the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. He is an honorary life member of the Asian Fisheries Society and the World Aquaculture Society and the Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences and academician of Academia Sinica."

Alejandro Buschmann Professor at the Universidad de Los Lagos, obtaining its Ph.D. at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. With over 80 peer-reviewed papers in international journals and book chapters, in aspects of coastal ecology focusing on the role on integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA). Due to the scientific achievements, in 2006 was eligible as corresponded member of the Chilean Academy of Science and as Board Member of the International Seaweed Association (ISAC). Also he was recognized by the International Foundation for Science (IFS) with The “Silver Jubillee Award” for its scientific achievements on seaweed aquaculture. He has been part of editorial committees of relevant scientific journals in his discipline. At the present is a researcher at “i-mar Research Center” and has been Director of Research and Graduate School at the Universidad de Los Lagos. In addition he has been designated in different scientific panels of the Chilean Science Agency (CONICYT) as well as in national commissions for graduate program quality certification. As a scientific consultant, he has been able to support seaweed culture developments with the industry and the promotion of the use sustainable environmental technologies for aquaculture with different world stakeholders.

N Basavaraja, after getting a master’s degree (MFSc) in 1984, he worked at University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore and in 1991 he obtained another master’s degree (MSc) in Aquaculture from University of Stirling, UK., returned and continued his teaching and research work. He received his Ph.D. from Mangalore University for his Studies on the cryopreservation of spermatozoa from mahseer (Tor khudree). He teaches students at graduate, post-graduate and doctoral level at Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University. Apart from teaching he conducts research on Fish Breeding, endocrinology, genetics and conservation. He has more than 100 publications and supervised a dozen master’s and four doctoral degree students on aspects related to fish breeding, endocrinology and genetics. He successfully operated eight research projects funded by national and international agencies. He has received several awards and visited several countries, including UK, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, etc. His significant research accomplishments are : Development of technology for the management of captive brood-stock, breeding, hatching and larval rearing of the Deccan mahseer (Tor khudree), the Cauvery carp, Puntius carnaticus and butter catfish, Ompokbimaculatus; a simple and practical protocol for the cryopreservation of Tor khudree spermatozoa; production of monosexprogenies of the Mozambique tilapia (Oreochromismossambicus) and guppy; production of 100% sterile common carp (Cyprinuscarpio) and Indian major carp breeding with a combination of buserelin and domperidone. Hewas member of the Consulstative Group of FAO Expert Workshop on `Freshwater Seed as Global Resource for Aquaculture` held at Wuxi, China.

Gen Hua Yue is a Director (of Strategic Research Programs) and Senior Principal Investigator at the Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, Singapore.He is an adjunct professor at several universities in China and Singapore. He got his PhD at the University Hohenheim, Germany in 1999. The research focus of his group is to use genomic approaches to improve the productivity and sustainability of economically important fish (e.g. Asian seabass and tilapia). He has published over 100 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has been on the editorial boards of several international journals (e.g. BMC Genomics, Aquaculture, Genes, Frontiers in Livestock Genomics, Plos One) and has evaluated over 200 scientific papers for 58 international journals. He has reviewed research proposals from the USA, China, Kuwait, New Zealand and Singapore since 2007.

Gen Hua Yue research interests are Conventional and molecular breeding of economically important fish and Molecular mechanisms underlying economically important complex-traits.
